In late 2019, a brand taking a total break from social media for six weeks seems like total madness and we just wanted to take a minute or two now to explain our method behind it. When we started EWD a year ago we had what we thought was a permanent plan that we could follow step by step until we were the next Kate Spade. But business is like life and, to borrow a quote, “if you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans.”
Following our Javitz Center trade show we came away with some significant changes we knew we had to make to our business model. While we planned EWD 2.0 we also came to a realization about how we as a couple engage with social media and that more than anything else prompted our six-week hiatus.
After six months of near daily posts and regular story updates, we wanted to take the time to live in the moment while we worked on the nitty-gritty business stuff. Punctuating that time working were trips to Boston, Atlanta, Vermont and one hurricane evacuation. Did we miss opportunities to share with everyone who engages with us regularly? Of course. But what we gained was the chance to live in those moments together without the presence of our phones and instagram accounts. It might not be for everyone but for us it was a special.
As we move forward now it’s with a renewed appreciation for every person who takes an interest in us and we can’t wait to share more with you on this journey. We’re energized by the changes we’re announcing later this week and we know you will be too. Stay tuned!
